Photography for me is a way to get access to people I don't cross paths with in my everyday life. Whether it's going to rodeos, car races, tourist sites, or even ice fishing, my camera allows me approach others and have a conversation. I get to see the way others live, join in other worlds.
I find humor in the slightly awkward and off-beat moments, using these elements to connect with the subject in the most human way. This is the same way I photograph still life or landscape - always looking for ways in which to humanize my surroundings.
I use this approach on every assignment - whether it is editorial, advertising or personal work. The goal is to make a photograph that empathizes with my subjects and surroundings or at the very least join them in a humorous moment.
